Good morning everyone. We still don’t know who won the US election, and the anticipation is killing us. It’s like Christmas except instead of gifts, we get to know the fate of the country. (Okay, maybe it isn’t as similar to Christmas as we initially thought)
0:12- When can we expect to find out more about the election?
Well, the quick answer is no one knows. Mail in votes totaled 100 million plus this election cycle, and with that comes delayed final counts. For example, in the three main battleground states left (Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia) over 8.5 million votes have yet to be counted (or are slowly in the process). Pennsylvania is even suggesting they may not be done until Friday. So it’s looking like you might want to buckle in for Election Week.
0:32- We heard there was high turnout...
Five states voted on legalising weed in various capacities last night, including Arizona, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota. So how weed do? Well, every single state voted to legalize weed. That was easier to write about than we thought.
0:44- Robo-criminals? Call Robo-cop
The FBI is currently investigating countless reports of a “stay safe and stay home” robocall that hit the states of Michigan, Nebraska, Kansas, and New York. YouMail, a robocall blocking company, is estimating between 1,000-1,500 variations of that call happened every minute while the polls were open yesterday.
0:58- Where is the money?
Traditionally, the markets react very strongly to a presidential election. Last year, S&P 500 futures bombed following the election, but last night those stayed relatively stable (+.4%). One section that didn’t stay stable though was cryptocurrencies. It appears as though investors didn’t know which way to bet on this election and decided to play it safe. Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum were up on the day.
1:18- Fear of the unknown
As the nation prepares for an uncertain future, many storefronts spent Tuesday night boarding up their windows in preparation for potential unrest. In addition, companies such as Mckinstry Co. LLC banned all work travel for the rest of the week. Delta’s CEO also sent a message to employees asking them to stay vigilant and careful. We also hope you all stay safe.
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
