⏱You want a what with your Big Mac??
90 Second News Issue #15
Hey there everyone. 2020 is looking up for a change, and we’re glad we get to celebrate with you every morning.
0:06- M.V.P. of 2020? It’s not even close
As I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, Pfizer is developing a vaccine that is currently “90% effective” against preventing Covid-19. But when will it be available and how many people will have access? Well, Pfizer is planning on asking the FDA for approval at the end of the month once it’s finished collecting data, and it’s expected that they’ll have between 15-20 million doses by the end of 2020. Although the numbers are not guaranteed yet, and a lot could change before it’s ready for the public, Akiko Isasaki, a Yale immunologist said that the numbers were “spectacular”.
0:31- “Can I get a Big Mac, a large fry, and uhh, a McPlant?”
Yes you read that correctly. McDonald’s is finally getting into the plant based meat game by beginning to introduce a “McPlant” line. They partnered with Beyond Meat to develop processes to replicate their chicken, burgers, and sausages, but will not be officially selecting Beyond to supply the product quite yet. The best part of this though? The new product will be called a “PLT” - plant, lettuce, and tomato!
0:49- Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion, and 3,000 Jobs
In case you don’t recognize the slogan above, that’s a (slightly paraphrased) version of GM’s. Yesterday they announced that they were planning to hire 3,000 tech employees in an effort to push the boundaries of their car manufacturing. Those positions will be funded by its profit rich products (primarily trucks) and will consist of engineering, design, and IT, as GM continues to make its push into electric vehicles in the future.
1:08- It seems like every company is worth a billion dollars nowadays
A “unicorn” (a privately held company valued at over $1Bn) used to be a rare occurrence, but now it feels fairly commonplace. Fast, an online checkout company designed to allow people to purchase things with one click, is raising its third round of funding at an evaluation of $1bn. While it doesn’t have much market share yet, with backers such as Stripe, it has the potential to explode “fast”.
1:26- A link we love
Planning a virtual Thanksgiving? As odd as that sounds it can work through Zoom and recipe coordination!
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
