Good morning. We’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news is that it’s Monday, the good news is that there’s only five more work days until the weekend. Oh, and if you prefer to listen to an audio version of this newsletter, check out our new podcast on Apple or Google!
0:08- This game show host amassed 7 Emmys and hosted more than 8,200 episodes over 37 seasons
Who is Alex Trebek? We’re sad to announce that Alex Trebek, host of Jeopardy!, passed away yesterday surrounded by friends and family after a two year battle with Pancreatic cancer. If you’re not ready to say goodbye yet, there will be new Jeopardy! episodes airing until December 25th, 2020.
0:25- We’re here to chew bubblegum and break Covid-19 daily records, and we’re all out of bubblegum
Through Saturday and Sunday, the US set its highest and second highest daily case counts at roughly 127k new cases each day, with daily deaths hovering at around 1k. With countries in Europe such as Italy and Denmark entering their second lockdown, questions about the future of the United States have been raised as the public continues to normalize Covid.
0:41- In breaking news, there is not a single piece of unhackable technology
At this past weekend’s Tianfu Cup, China’s biggest hacking competition, virtually every piece of software available was hacked (yes, even your smart fridge). For example, iOS 14, Windows 10, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Adobe PDF Reader, and more were all found to be incredibly vulnerable. On the bright side, tech companies normally use these events to patch those holes in their system, so you won’t be at risk for much longer.
1:00- Affordable Care Act for all or for none?
During this upcoming week, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether or not the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a Obamacare) is unconstitutional. The reason for that? Senate Republicans made changes to it so that the penalty for not enrolling in health insurance was non-existent. With that change, there is questionable legality (even if a penalty of $1 were charged, there is legal precedence for it being okay). The court isn’t expected to make a decision until next June, but this may be moot if Biden were to expand the system and re-add the penalty.
1:24- Random link we love-
Spend more time on your phone “doom scrolling” this past week? Well it turns out you’re not alone. The iOS screen time report this morning left a lot of people in shock
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
