Good morning everyone. Looks like we’re back to normal life for a bit — at least as normal as it can be in 2020.
0:06- Elon Musk causing chaos? At least this time it’s indirectly
Tesla ($TSLA) is set to be added to the S&P 500 come December 21st, and investors are beginning to get worried about the volatility that this move could cause. Talks are even occurring right now about potentially adding the stock in a two-day event, which would be an unprecedented move. $TSLA is up more than 40% since the initial announcement and more than 586% YTD.
0:24- The largest school district in the nation resumes in-person learning
NYC public schools are officially re-opening on December 7th for Pre-K through 5th grade, however older students will continue to learn online. This decision comes only two weeks after the initial decision to close schools, but Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a press conference that there have been low infection rates found in classrooms which has caused them to re-think their 3% positivity rate threshold. Students will receive weekly Covid tests as a precaution when schooling resumes.
0:44- The toughest competitor the Denver Broncos have faced? Covid
The NFL had a rather hectic Thanksgiving week, and is shutting down the league for two days beginning today. This comes after incidents such as the Broncos having no available QBs for their game, a ban on contact sports in the hometown of the 49ers, and a postponed game between the Ravens and Steelers who both have a multitude of cases. With cancellations running rampant in the league, the playoff contingency (expanding to 16 teams from 14) plan may have to come to fruition.
1:04- China is already vaccinating their citizens. . . without testing first
China has reportedly vaccinated more than 1m people so far with a shot designed by the pharmaceutical company Sinopharm Group. Although that news sounds good, almost no data has been provided by the Chinese government on the vaccine’s effectiveness, and no Phase 3 trial data has even been released yet. This means that although they may have a jump on the distribution, the citizens exposed to this may be prone to unknown side effects or the vaccine may not even work.
1:25- The original Darth Vader is in a galaxy far far away now
Yesterday, David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original trilogy passed away yesterday at the age of 85. He was almost the voice of Vader as well, but had his lines dubbed over at the last second.
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
