0:09- “Confused? Just Apple it!”
As odd as that sounds, it may be the new jargon soon. The Financial Times reported yesterday that Apple is developing its own search engine in an effort to avoid antitrust talks by the government. This might not be as crazy as it sounds though– Apple has been quietly recruiting a top notch team of search engineers for a couple of years now.
0:25- Three CEOs walk into a b̶a̶r̶ senate hearing
Yesterday, Zuckerberg (Facebook), Dorsey (Twitter), and Pichai (Google) appeared in front of the Senate Commerce Committee to answer questions about how they’ve been handling the polarizing election cycle. Section 230, a law that protects internet sites from liability for any user posts, was a hot button issue, along with censorship, and algorithms devised to create echo chambers.
0:40- Under the weather Wisconsin
On Wednesday morning, Wisconsin announced that head coach Paul Chryst, and starting QB Graham Mertz had both tested positive for Covid along with five other players and five other coaches. Following that, Wisconsin cancelled their game with Nebraska, making it a “no contest”- the first of the B1G season.
0:53- More cash strapped than a teenager who just bought a car
According to a WSJ report, U.S. States are facing an almost unprecedented revenue shortfall– the likes of which haven’t been seen since the Great Depression. This drop has been caused by the significant decrease in tax revenue brought on by lockdowns, and is leading to lawmakers around the country raising taxes, and cutting funds for K-12 education, retirement plans, and more. With large deficits looming, and no sight of a recovery package coming, states across the nation are buckling down.
1:14- SP🌕🌕KY Season-
Get ready to go star gazing, as we’re in for a rare treat! A (bright red) Mars is visible to the naked eye tonight, and we’re also scheduled to have a full moon on Halloween. Watch out for those werewolves!
1:24- What to look for today
Earnings from Spotify, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Google, Twitter, and Starbucks (Oh, you know, just 7 of the biggest companies)
Q3 GDP data for the United States will be released showing how well the nation has been doing.
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
