0:05- Biden joins one of the smallest and most exclusive clubs in the world
Yesterday Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States, marking the start of a new era in Washington D.C. In his first speech as president, he primarily preached unity, saying, “We must end this uncivil war that pits red against blue.” Following the ceremony and speech, Biden then signed a variety of executive orders including a national mask mandate (on Federal property), one which revoked the Keystone XL oil pipeline, and one which reversed the travel ban from several primarily Muslim and African countries.
0:29-We might as well give Bezos a cape at this point
Because he’s helping to save lives. Yesterday, Amazon penned a letter to the Biden administration offering to help with the distribution of vaccines. This gesture was most likely greatly appreciated, as Biden’s goal is to have the country complete 100M vaccinations within his first 100 days in office. Amazon offered the full suite of their capabilities, but primarily wants to have the ability to distribute vaccines at their facilities such as warehouses and Whole Foods stores.
0:50- $BABA breathes a sigh of relief
After a long period of concern, Alibaba investors finally got to see billionaire owner Jack Ma for the first time since October 24th following an event where he made derogatory comments towards the Chinese government. The apparence in question yesterday was a virtual philanthropic event for rural teachers, and according to sources at the event, he looked “relaxed.” Alibaba stock soared on the day, moving up 5.5% as investors regained confidence in the company.
1:09- Stimulus leads to a surge in sales
The $600 stimulus that was signed late last year has led to a significant bump in spending for restaurants around the country, although experts note that the bump can disappear quickly. Chains such as Checker’s, Noodles & Co, TGI Fridays, and McDonalds have all reported higher sales, and local restaurants such as “Beef ‘O’ Brady’s” in Tampa, Florida are being helped by the increase as well.
1:27- The last hope for White Rhinos
There are currently only two white rhinos left in the world, but scientists have managed to collect eggs and create embryos that will hopefully lead to a calf being born in the next two to three years.
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
