0:05- If you have a passcode on your phone, this case will affect you
Two days ago, the ACLU and Electronic Frontier Foundation filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking them to settle a rather interesting question: do Americans have a constitutional right to protect their passwords from authorities? As of right now, it’s up to the states to decide, and all of the rulings are rather murky. ACLU lawyers argue that it's the same as the combination to a safe — which authorities cannot force you to divulge. Regardless of the ruling, this will change countless court cases in the future.
0:29- Democrats will attempt to Impeach Trump on Monday-
After the incidents in the Capital on Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been vocal about her disapproval of President Trump’s handling of the situation. So far, she has pushed VP Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment, and also questioned President Trump’s fitness for office, even going as far as to speak with Army generals on what could be done to prevent the President from accessing the nuclear launch codes. Then, around 5:00pm EST yesterday, she announced that House Democrats would be introducing articles of impeachment this upcoming Monday — less than 12 days before Joe Biden takes office. So far, more than 150 signatures have been acquired on the articles.
0:58- All ten of the former Quibi fans can rejoice at this news!
Roku officially acquired the rights to Quibi’s catalogue today, for a little less than $100M — which sounds like a lot until you realize that the original cost of the programming was over $1Bn. Quibi’s shows will become available on Roku’s “Roku Channel” soon for free, and will be there until 2027.
1:11- Apparently companies don’t like it when you attack them
Yesterday, Dominion Voting Systems filed a defamation lawsuit against former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell for $1.3Bn. In the suit Dominion stated, “Powell’s wild accusations are demonstrably false.” and accused her of causing “enormous harm” to the company.
1:21- A satellite made out of...wood?
Japanese researchers from Kyoto university recently announced that they have developed a wooden satellite and will be able to launch one by 2023. This discovery will allow governments to cut down on the space junk orbiting around the Earth, and prevent any dangerous materials from reentering the atmosphere.
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
