Early yesterday morning the world seemed to freeze as Google’s suite of services (other than its search and map features) went down for 45 minutes. This outage sent schools, corporations, and organizations into a frenzy as people tried to access their email, documents, or photos. The best part? Google searches for “is google down” skyrocketed.

Apple’s new Fitness+ service launched today in one of the hottest industries — health tech. This $9.99 subscription service requires an Apple Watch, and includes 10 different kinds of exercises, from cycling to yoga, with varying difficulty levels. It appears as though Apple is competing directly with Peloton Digital, along with the slew of other workout apps in the App Store.

Yesterday Reddit acquired Dubsmash, a video sharing app, in an effort to expand a new area of media for it — user created video. In its 15 year lifespan so far, this marks Reddit’s first major acquisition. No terms were disclosed, but it was a cash and stock deal. Steve Huffman, the CEO, said, “The transition to video will be bigger than the transition to mobile” a big statement considering that 70% of all Reddit views are from mobile devices.

Yesterday, the developers of the much anticipated game Cyberpunk (it had been in development for over eight years), released an apology for the difference between gamer expectations and actual game performance due to a myriad of glitches on last generation consoles. To compensate for the disappointment in the community, gamers were offered a refund if they weren’t happy.
1:15- CDC recommendations for the vaccine formalized as vaccinations begin
As the vaccine begins to reach areas around the nation, specific recommendations from the CDC were issued. Those were that the youngest age recommended for the vaccine is 16, pregnant women should consult with a doctor first, and that those with anaphylactic allergies should be monitored for 30 minutes following the shot.
