⏱A new way to listen to music in the car
The J&J vaccine, and a crypto IPO
Good morning everyone, and congrats on making it halfway through the week!
Spotify released a new product yesterday simply entitled “Car thing.” This new gadget is aimed at making changing music in the car less dangerous than it currently is as people use their phone to change playlists/music/podcasts while driving. The device’s design is akin to a very thin tablet with two tactile knobs that can be used in conjunction with voice controls to navigate through a user’s library. Currently “car thing” is only available to a small subset of users, but if you want to hop on the waiting list, you can do so here.

Yesterday morning, US agencies announced that they were seeking a pause in the distribution of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine, citing blood clots as an issue after they appeared in six women aged 18-48. This move came under increased scrutiny from the public, as the side effect is incredibly, incredibly rare (more than 6.8M doses of the J&J vaccine have been distributed). Dr. Fauci responded by saying, “The fact that a pause was done, I think, is just a testament to how seriously we take safety.”

Apple announced a new event yesterday following a leak from Siri the night before (she gave the date when users asked when the next event was). The event in question is called, “Spring Loaded” and will take place digitally on April 20th. Typically spring events showcase the remaining products to be launched that year, and analysts are expecting updated iPad Pros, a new iPad and iPad mini, refreshed iMacs, and are cautiously expecting gen 3 Airpods, AirTags, and potentially new MacBook Pros.
Coinbase, the popular crypto trading site, is set to go public tomorrow with a reference price of $250 a share. This valuation sets the pre-IPO market cap at roughly $65.3Bn, and analysts are expecting an almost immediate jump in price. The last five major direct listings: Spotify, Slack, Palantir, Asana and Roblox, all opened 37% above the reference price.
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
