Good morning everyone. We can’t believe it’s not Friday already, but at least there’s only two days left in the week.
0:05- $200M virtual polaroid app
YouTuber David Dobrik launched the beta of his photo sharing app “Dispo” earlier this month, and it’s already generating tremendous buzz. The app, which functions like a virtual polaroid camera, doesn’t allow users to see the photos they take until 9am the next day when they’re posted on “film rolls”, raised $20M in a fundraising round that valued the company at $200M. Want to join? You’ll unfortunately have to wait— the company already maxed out their beta invites.
0:25- One time for the one time
Yesterday the FDA reported that the Johnson and Johnson one shot Covid vaccine was safe, indicating that it’ll soon be approved in the US as the third widely available vaccine for the public. Unfortunately, the study of more than 44k people found that the vaccine was only 66.1% effective, although it did meet the “prespecified success criteria.” The official approval could happen as early as this weekend, meaning that 20M doses of the vaccine could be distributed by the end of March.
0:47- Fisker and Foxconn plan for the future
Electric car manufacturer Fisker, and Foxconn (the largest manufacturer of the iPhone) announced a deal today that will see them producing more than 250k cars annually beginning in Q4 2023 when Fisker’s second car enters mass production. Although the location of the plant has yet to be disclosed, the Fisker CEO hinted that it may occur in Wisconsin where Foxconn recently purchased a large swath of land and has built a factory.
1:06- India bribes the world with $1Bn
Yesterday India’s government announced a large program with roughly $1Bn in incentives that’s aimed at bringing computer production to the country. In New Delhi for example, any computer manufacturer in the city is eligible to receive up to 4% of their sales in cash solely for increasing domestic production. The end goal of the deal is to “...bring the world’s top five global champions to India and produce for the world” according to Ravi Prasad, the minister of electronics and information technology.
1:28- A helluva haircut
While we’re sure some of you have had some significant haircuts over the years, our friend Baarack definitely has you beat. He’s an Australian sheep who got lost years ago, and was recently found with a 78 pound fleece coat on him. His rescuers managed to shear him, and now he’s officially team #ShortHairDontCare
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
