Whew. Glad we all survived that week. It’s the freakin weekend! Go have some fun!
0:04- The future is female
Yesterday, Kim Ng entered the history books as the Marlins announced that she would be taking the helm as the first female GM in the MLB (as well as the first in all four major sports leagues in the US). The Marlin’s three highest ranking officials after today? Two women and an ex-shortstop named Derek Jeter (He might be worth looking up. He was pretty good in his day.)
0:21- It’s a good thing that stocks only go up📈
On a day known for bad luck (Seriously, the last Friday the 13th was in March...), the S&P 500 stared Jason Voorhees and the rest of the doomsayers in the face and closed at an all time high. Ending at a nice and healthy 3,585 points, the index was up 1.36% on the day. But why? Well, the overall market has been strong this week on the news of a Biden win in the presidential race with a Republican Senate (the market tends to thrive under a divided government), and a potential Pfizer vaccine.
0:46- DoorDash? More like Door Flat Out Sprint-
DoorDash filed its IPO prospectus yesterday under the ticker $DASH, and showcased some pretty incredible numbers. It’s revenue over the last 9 months ending Sept. 30 was $1.9bn, up from $587 million in the same period during 2019. It still managed to lose money though, although slightly less than before, going from a $533 million loss to only $149 million during the same time frame. With the passing of Prop 22 in California benefitting gig economy companies, look for this IPO to be big.
1:09- Covid-19: Return of the Lockdown
As Covid continues to hit its second wind, America is facing increased pressure to enact measures to stop the drastic spread of the disease. Yesterday, New Mexico and Oregon announced lockdowns, and many other states increased restrictions. As the weather continues to get colder, experts say that the disease can last much longer in the air, and they’re stressing the importance of social distancing and avoiding crowded indoor areas.
1:27- A link we love
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are buying a soccer team?! That’s not where we expected that headline to go.
Have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you tomorrow bright and early!
